Day 4 of the move out

The sewing table is still up but not for long!  The room is essentially emptied out except for the wall mounted items, the desk which is all emptied and the computer.  I hesitate to do anything more with the computer as we use an internet phone---last minute, it is.   I still need to vacuum as I moved out the last book shelf.  He helped me with the TV stand and the file cabinet once I emptied them out.  Hooray for empty luggage there!

DJ and I went to look at flooring and I found what I wanted.  A russet oak laminate that is similar to the kitchen, a bit of a redder cast to it though.  5 boxes later, it is parked on the floor near the foot of his bed.  48 hours worth of acclimating to the house temperature is what is recommended.  Robert knowing about DJ's surgery carried it in.   It looks like we/he can plan on getting started on taking up the carpet on either Friday or Saturday.  I told DJ that one of us needs to do the touch up painting first.   I think if I bake him those muffins or make that potato soup he mentioned he will do it.

The only other thing we need to purchase is that strip you put on the floor between the carpet and the flooring and the trim boards.  Not sure what linear footage was needed and we had not measured the door openings either.

SO........  Looks like it is all a go! It is possible that I will miss guild and my own quilt group meeting trying to get things back to normal around here.  I should have plenty of time to do the blog hop entry immediately after I can get a few things back in here but knowing me, the whole room will be set to rights first, LOL.

Another shelving unit has been dealt with today along with part of another, leaving just the third one that has some odds and ends on it that I will still need in order to work on my blog hop items.  DJ was kind enough to help me unload and load all the pattern notebooks and magazines, etc that fill a total of 3 shelves.  THX, Honey!  Oh, this one is "decapitated by one shelf at this point too, LOL.  I would have taken off another but saw no point in moving all the stuff already on it.  (Do it later.)

 I reached the saturation point in my bed room storage.  Thankfully, DJ offered a few spots where I could tuck a few things without totally inconveniencing him.  I have another little spot scoped out from my thread containers too.  SO I have not had to use my bathtub or my car trunk other than temporarily, LOL.  Basically, it is just down to the files in my desk and file cabinet and emptying out the bottom of the TV stand. My cutting/pressing table will be needed for a bit longer and that surface can be cleared quickly.

 DJ and I also had a discussion about where the TV stand and file cabinet could be held while the work is being done.  BUT that is absolutely last minute moving there.  One holds the printer which I may need.  The TV, I could live without as I often don't even turn it on till the evening hours.  Robert thought he could work around the large office desk but I need it to be lighter to move!  I don't even know how we managed to get that thing in here in the first place!

 I am going to sew today though--I promised myself that.  How odd that I am facing right up to the wall instead of the book shelf.  So what is on tap?  One block that I will foundation piece--modified Puss in the Corner.  It is a re-do for some less than stellar piecing on my first attempt.  I forget what I had done before to modify it but probably eliminated some extra lines and such.  This is also not original to the quilt either but that is why I term it "inspired by".  Not making an exact duplicate of the cover quilt.  This should not take all that long and I need to start working on the hop item (s).

It is supposed to be warmer tomorrow so I am hopeful that DJ and I can get out to look at flooring.  We were down to 7 this morning by our thermometer and I think it is 20 now, mid afternoon with the sun shining.  Others in the country have had it far worse with blizzard like conditions.  Isn't that how you define a blizzard--below freezing temps, winds of probably a certain mph and snow?  We had some flurries yesterday but nothing that stuck.  The grass is all crunchy though.  They say we have not had this arctic cold down here, with one digit lows since 1996, before we moved down here.  Record rains in 2013 and record cold this year?  I have not resorted to baking yet to warm the house but I did promise him I would make pizza tonight as I have some Italian sausage links thawed.  Poor DJ is still waiting for breakfast muffins or quick bread.

and so it begins

I told you yesterday of my plans to get laminate or something like laminate floor put down in the sewing room. I started moving a few things around last night, LOL. My original intention was to try to empty out the large bins and things from under the pressing/cutting table.  Mission accomplished but I still have sewing to do so the top will remain as it.  The rolled cart and the empty tote will not stay empty for long and were brought in only because it is supposed to be bitterly cold and I won't want to fetch it then.  I kept out two machines that I know I will need.  (That other thing is the paper shredder)

Then this morning----1st shelving unit is completely emptied off.  That has not been moved since July 1997.  A few things that I need to keep out were shuffled around  to spots that emptied up on the 3rd one in the line.   I dismantled the shelf and did try to take it out to the shed but we had some rain last night and the below freezing temps followed so the lock is froze.  You guessed it, the lock de-icer is in the shed.  I put the shelves in my car trunk for now, LOL.

Where is the rest of it?  I'll show you but trust me, I am not going to do any blow by blow every day I move things.  LOL.  This sat next to the pressing/cutting table.

The stuffed up corner---the large stuff from under the table and whatever else I could stack in there this morning.  The Christmas fabric tote is buried in there too but that really doesn't have a home, LOL.  I will go higher up with stuff in the actual corner but another day.  (A few things I need later in the week are there on top at the moment.)

I moved my quilt show entries into the closet which is now supremely blocked as you just saw.  Good thing that show is not until March!   Just enough space to hold this stuff.

All in a couple hours work and I am eyeing other spots in the living room and kitchen for later stacking.   It is possible that we will be able to do this before I initially thought if the entries are done, maybe between blog hops.  I drug in my suitcases to load up with the loose quilt tops and such piled on the overfilled open baskets too.    Keep plugging but I'm off for a badly needed shower snd then a bit of sewing.

DJ is hinting for potato soup and my making some muffins or quick bread.    After all, one way to keep the house warm is to bake, LOL.  We'll see.

Another finish

I got the binding machine finished on this "Revised Chantal" which originally a Debby Kratovil pattern for Blank Quilting.  It is still on her free patterns page HERE but I will not link directly to it as it will open a pdf file.

I admit that this is not that pretty a quilt in pictures.  It looks better close up though when you can see the colors a bit better.  Perhaps it will make someone happy though.  One can hope.

I did a better job on the binding this time putting the binding on the back and pulling it to the front.  I still am not sure just where to set up the walking foot however.  On the back some of the stitching goes into the binding, some in the ditch and some about an 1/8 inch (or gasp, slightly more!) away.  I don't know that I would do this on my own personal quilts but the one good thing is that it is finished.  I laundered it and truthfully, it looks a bit better plus removed the stiffness I had created with the glue process.

SO what is next?   There is a third donation quilt to bind but I am going to do by hand and over time--some quilt meetings coming up after all.   I will re-do the modified Puss in the Corner block for my Farmers Wife Inspired Sampler.  Then I will get busy on my blog hop items.  Both hops actually.  I have a good reason to get them moved along and shut down the "shop" for a bit.

Recently DJ and I were talking and I mentioned not for the first time, that I would love to carpet removed from my sewing room and laminate or that type of flooring put down.  He said "you have some money to pay for it" so essence I could go for it.  Then did he think he and I could do the job or hire it out?  He is still recovering from surgery and that might be pushing it a bit.  Then there is all the stuff that is in every nook and cranny of this 10 x 10 foot room.  That part is a little daunting plus I would not want to have to move this big office desk out of the room.  The rest I could deal with finding other nooks and crannies here in the house or in the utility shed.  We already talked my taking things out there and stacking them before lawn mowing season would start.

This afternoon I went across the lane to talk to our neighbor.  I know that his wife had said that Robert had laid their flooring when they first moved in.  Since he does seasonal work, would he be interested in a business proposition?  We worked out the details, I showed him the room and said I would get it all emptied out except for maybe the desk--scoot it from one side to the other---as the floor goes down.  He'll rip up the carpet and dispose of it.  I'll purchase the supplies.  His son and his bride had recently finished putting down flooring in their kitchen and living room so we went over to see it and talked to them about it.

I moved a few things tonight already, LOL.  DJ knows me and said that I would probably want to do it all in one day or do it all "right now"  Well, not quite but I did need to see what exactly would fit in one corner of my bedroom that I was counting on. I can still go up higher though!!  I see that this gives me the opportunity to do a bit of purging at least of my desk.  Some other surfaces were cleared off for other smaller items. Some things will be moved at the last minute, like the computer.  I know DJ is not going to want stuff piled up in his bedroom or blocking his TV access.  He may have no choice, LOL.

So that's the story---lots of work but worth it.
